JEERA RICE
A SIMPLE,FLAVOURFUL AND COMFORTING JEERA RICE RECIPE THAT YOU CAN MAKE UNDER 30 MINUTES
Ingredients:
Rice - 1 cup (uncooked, preferably basmati)
Water - 2 cups(for cooking rice)
Cumin seeds(Jeera) - 1-1.5 tsp
Oil - 1.5 tbsp
Bay leaf - 1
Green chilli - 1, slit
Salt - to taste
Curry leaves(optional)
Coriander leaves - optional (for garnishing)
Procedure
Step 1: Prepare the rice
Rinse 1 cup basmati rice in water 2-3 times , till water runs clear
Soak in water for 20 minutes then drain
In a pot, add 2 cups of water and a pinch of salt
Bring to a boil, then add the soaked rice(bring to a boil again), then simmer on low until cooked.
Fluff with a fork and keep aside.
Step 2: Temper with jeera
In a pan, heat 1.5 tbsp of oil(or ghee) on medium flame
Add 1- 1.5 tsp of cumin seeds, let them splutter
Add the bay leaf, curry leaves and the slit chilli - saute for a few seconds till fragrant.
Step 3: Combine
Add the cooked rice to the pan
Sprinkle salt if needed and gently mix so the rice doesn't break
Garnish with cjopped coriander (optional).
Serving tip:
Pairs beautifully with dal tadka, chole,paneer curry or any mild gravy
